Basic and Refresher Trainings
LEARN organizes several basic and refresher trainings to teachers in different clusters. The basic trainings generally last for 10 days and the refresher ones, for six days. The70project implemented schools have been divided into 5 clusters, i.e. Rima, Shikha, Tatopani, Pakhapani and Rakhu. Different need based trainings have been organized in each cluster every year. The training programs focus on classroom management, child friendly learning strategies, students’ evaluation, ICT in education, subject based training (English, Nepali, Science, Mathematics, Social Studies, and Arts and Crafts) and the best practices on teaching and learning.
LEARN’s approach in training ensures that the training:
addresses the participants’ requirements engages participants in various MI based and cooperative learning activities focuses more on practice right in the training hours ensures that the participants evaluate their learning and provide feedback of the program so that LEARN can conduct it in a better way next time is active, fun-based and goal-oriented
Lead Teachers’ Capacity Building Activities
LEARN establishes a network of lead teachers to ensure effectiveness of in-school support activities, which, LEARN believes, results in the sustainability of the project. The organization conducts different types of capacity building activities and exposure visits to lead teachers for their
profession development as well as to institutionalize their personal abilities and skills.
Resource Support Program
Teaching learning materials play a vital role in the overall development of school education. Realizing the fact that it is difficult to get teaching learning resources in the remote schools of Myagdi and teachers are facing the problems in developing such materials due to the lack of market accessibility, LEARN provides school supply resources to each school. The resources mostly include materials for instructional activities, lab materials, library books, music and IT equipment etc. Those materials are mostly handed over to the schools at the end of the training /refresher programs so that the schools can use them right from the beginning of the session. In the same way, LEARN provides furniture items to needy schools.
In-school Support Program
LEARN believes that the necessary support and feedback should be provided to school administration and teachers in real classroom situation for its better outcomes. For the same, a team of trainers and experts visits the schools in the middle of the session during the school days. The team interacts with teachers, students, PTA and SMC members, RPs and the head teachers and discusses the successes and challenges for the improvement of the overall existing conditions of those schools. During the interaction, the team also witnesses the classroom environment and teaching learning activities. Hence, the main objective of this program is to assess the effectiveness of the program, appreciate the changes and provide instant support to teachers and schools, and integrate feedbacks/suggestions too to improve the LEARN’s programs in the days to come.
LEARN coordinates different monitoring visits by Social Welfare Center for Education and Human Resources Development (CEHRD), representatives from district and municipal level and other government line agencies to different program impact schools. The major objective of these visits is to objectively measure the effectiveness of the projects and provide suggestions and feedbacks for their improvement.
Community Orientation Programs (COPs)
LEARN conducts different community orientation programs, the subjects of which include quality education, school management and development, learning progresses and other issues related to their school. Teachers, students, parents and community people participate in each one-day community orientation program. This also forms a school observation committee, a member of which is in-charge to visit and observe school activities a day and provides feedback and suggestions.
